When Season 4 and Season 5 were being shot in and around Split, we were just over the moon about it! So many things are already happened on the show, plus, as we saw in Seasons 4 and 5, our beautiful city of Split is heavily featured. Season 6 moved the filming of to Spain.
A number of different areas of the town of Peñíscola were used for filming Game of Thrones in Season 6. The walls of Plaza Santa Maria and Calle Mayor were used in Season 6, Episode 1 when Tyrion Lannister and Lord Varys walked through the city streets.
The Artillery Park in Peniscola was the location used in Season 6 Episode 4 when Missandei, Grey Worm, and Tyrion walk through the park discussing the future of Meereen.
But the first image of Meereen in Season 6 below shows how the so-called Movie Magic combined Klis Fortress and Peñíscola town into the City of Meereen.
You can visit many of these locations on our Game of Thrones Tour.
The first episode of Season 6 is called “The Red Woman” and by now, we all know why. Today, we’re going to look in on Meereen as Klis Fortress was the site of the start of the long walk between Varys and Tyrion.
That’s it for Episode 1! You can view all scenes filmed in Split on this page. Catch you next time for Episode 2.
