This is an extensive Meereen and Braavos tour every Game of Thrones fan would love to experience!
Through years and seasons of the show, filming was scattered all over the coastline of our Dalmatia region. This tour takes you around all of the filming locations in Split, Šibenik and in between. In one day you will hear about our history, visit the heritage sites where the filming took place, listen about the filming, have a boat ride and taste our traditional cuisine – Dalmatian Pašticada dish with wine!
The tour visits 7 different filming locations in the region of Dalmatia: 3 different filming locations in Split, the castle of Kaštel Gomilica and 3 different locations in Šibenik.
After meeting in Split, you’ll take an air conditioned transfer to Šibenik city center and take a relaxed boat ride to the St. Nicholas fortress out on the seas of Šibenik. It will give you the opportunity to see the city from the seaside, see the dark tunnels of the House of the Undying and hear about the history of the fortress.
Upon return from the fortress to the city center of Šibenik, your guide will take you on a walking tour of the city center, during which he’ll tell you about the Game of Thrones scenes that were filmed here as well as some of the local and Croatian history. You will see our UNESCO protected St. Jacob’s cathedral through the Game of Thrones lenses posing as The Iron Bank, as well as the streets where Arya wandered practicing for the Faceless killer.
Next follows a short drive to visit St. John’s fortress just above the city. With the view of the city of Šibenik you will see how the city and its surroundings were turned into the Free city of Braavos. Also you will see the fighting pit of Meereen where Jorah Mormont fought and brought Daenerys a gift – Tyrion.
The traditional meal Dalmatian Pašticada (veal meat cooked in sauce with gnocchi and grated cheese, including wine or juice) in Šibenik is followed by the return drive towards Split which takes about hour and a half, perfect for resting after the lunch. Diet restrictions are noted during the booking process.
On the way you will make a stop at a small medieval fortress in Kaštel Gomilica on the sea close to Split. Posing as a part of Braavos, that is where Arya walked around posing as a girl selling oysters.
Next is the drive to the mountain village of Klis, about 20 minutes outside Split. On top of this tiny village stands Klis Fortress on a rocky cliff offering the absolute best view of Split, the Adriatic Sea and neighbouring islands. Meereen can be recognized in Klis fortress immediately! Your guide will take you on a walking tour of the fortress, during which he’ll tell you about the Game of Thrones scenes that were filmed here as well as some of the local and Croatian history.
Finally, you’ll take a walking tour of the 1700-year-old Diocletian’s Palace in the heart of Split’s old town. You’ll wander the streets that became Meereen, visit several Game of Thrones filming locations and the most important of them – the substructures of the palace and the dungeons of Daenerys’s dragons.
